Millions of people use turmeric on a daily basis in their lives today. In India alone, up to 500 million people use it in one form or another every day.

Isn’t it time you gave your body what it deserves?

And of the many herbs and spices I studied, the one in particular that caught my immediate attention was turmeric. It provides you with these whole-person benefits:

  • Supports your healthy joint function
  • Promotes your radiant skin
  • Helps improve your digestion

And so much more…

There’s some debate about the timing of turmeric’s first use as a healthy spice.

But one thing is certain. Thousands of years ago, people in India and China used the spice. In fact, some stories suggest usage dates back 10,000 years in India when they say Lord Rama walked the earth.

And the ancient Polynesians carried turmeric with them on their incredible voyage across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. Today, Hawaiians still use this spice — known to them as Olena.

While in China, Marco Polo in 1280 AD recorded information on turmeric in his diary:

There is also a vegetable which has all the properties of true saffron, as well the smell and the color, and yet it is not really saffron.”

So, turmeric has been used as a substitute for saffron (an old world spice) in Europe for over 700 years.

One of the main healthful ingredients in turmeric is curcumin (a curcuminoid), which as I said, gives turmeric its yellow color.

Western scientists first isolated the curcumin molecule in 1815, obtained its crystalline form in 1870, and determined its overall structure in 1910.

Curcumin can potentially benefit you by:

Promoting your immune system against stress

  • Promoting your immune system
  • Helping you maintain your healthy digestive system
  • Supporting your healthy bones, joints, and overall skeletal system
  • Helping you maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range
  • Promoting your healthy blood and liver functions

How Turmeric and Curcumin Provide Antioxidant Nutrients

You probably know that antioxidants are important for your health.

I believe antioxidants are your body’s #1 way to neutralize free radicals and help you potentially slow down the signs of normal aging.

Oxidation by free radicals can damage cells and organs — and thus impact your aging process — something I’m sure you’d rather put the brakes on.

Antioxidants are also key nutrients in:

  • Supporting your memory function
  • Promoting your heart health
  • Boosting your immune system

Turmeric’s antioxidants help protect your cells from free radical damage.

The antioxidant content within turmeric comes from active compounds called curcuminoids.

These curcuminoids deliver antioxidants that may be:

  • 5 to 8 times stronger than vitamin E — and also stronger than vitamin C
  • 3 times more powerful than grape seed or pine bark extract
  • Strong enough to scavenge the hydroxyl radical — considered by many to be the most reactive of all oxidants

How Turmeric Enhances Your Outer Beauty

Speaking of antioxidant nutrients and their potential to impact the aging process, some of the first aging signs you may see as you get older are changes to your skin.

Believe it or not, the organic ingredients found in turmeric can help promote your healthy skin.

How, you ask?

Curcuminoids support important blood and liver functions, healthy joints, and your overall well-being, which in turn helps promote radiant, supple skin.

Turmeric has been considered to be ‘skin food’ for thousands of years in India and other cultures.

Turmeric helps:

  • Cleanse your skin and maintain its elasticity
  • Provide nourishment to your skin
  • Balance the effects of skin flora

So, turmeric can act as your one-two punch against normal aging with its skin promotion and antioxidant capabilities — outer beauty plus inner purity.

Your Triple-Action Cellular Booster and Adaptogen

Another potential advantage from turmeric usage involves the smallest living things within you — your cells.

Turmeric can assist your cells in three ways, by:

  • Helping neutralize substances that can cause cellular stress
  • Maintaining your cells’ integrity when threatened by occasional environmental stressors
  • Providing the antioxidants you need to help support your cells against excessive oxidation and free radicals

Turmeric is also recognized as an adaptogen — helping to support your body against stress and providing immune system support.

Natural Medicine – Uncontrolled Bleeding

Uncontrolled Bleeding
Here are two natural, safe remedies using ingredients you may, or now, should have in your kitchen. These work almost miraculously to immediately stop bleeding.Cayenne_powder300

The first is cayenne pepper. If you experience profuse bleeding, apply a liberal amount of cayenne to the wound and press in hard. Maintain pressure until bleeding stops, then bandage and leave overnight. The next day, remove bandage and clean out a little and re-bandage. You will be amazed at how well this works.

Of course, if the wound is serious, transport to the emergency room once bleeding is controlled. These remedies are NOT meant to replace emergency medicine…(read full article)

GMO = Massive Tumors, Organ Damage, and Early Death

The first-ever lifetime feeding study1 evaluating the health risks of genetically engineered foods was published online on September 19, and the results are troubling, to say the least. This new study joins a list of over 30 other animal studies showing toxic or allergenic problems with genetically engineered foods.

The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, found that rats fed a type of genetically engineered corn that is prevalent in the US food supply for two years developed massive mammary tumors, kidney and liver damage, and other serious health problems.

The research was considered so “hot” that the work was done under strict secrecy. According to a French article in Le Nouvel Observateur,2 the researchers used encrypted emails, phone conversations were banned, and they even launched a decoy study to prevent sabotage!

  • A two-year long French feeding study designed to evaluate the long-term health effects of a genetically engineered corn found that rats fed Monsanto’s maize developed massive breast tumors, kidney and liver damage, and other serious health problems. The major onslaught of diseases set in during the 13th month.
  • Female rats that ate genetically engineered corn died 2-3 times more than controls, and more rapidly, while the male GE-fed rats had tumors that occurred up to a year-and-a-half earlier than rats not fed GE corn.
  • According to results from a 10-year long feeding study on rats, mice, pigs and salmon, genetically engineered feed causes obesity, along with significant changes in the digestive system and major organs, including the liver, kidneys, pancreas, genitals and more.
  • The EPA admits there’s “mounting evidence” that Monsanto’s insecticide-fighting YieldGard corn is losing its effectiveness in the Midwest. Last year, rootworms resistant to the toxin in the genetically designed corn infested fields in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska.
  • Genetically engineered foods are responsible for development of resistant weeds and pests; increased pathogenic virulence; degradation of soil quality; reduced nutrient content in food; exponential rise in infertility and birth defects; and reduced crop yields, and more.

Hi Honey!

Q. What is the only food that doesn’t spoil?
A. Honey
It is found that a mixture of Honey and Cinnamon cures most of the diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Ayurvedic as well as Yunani medicine have been using honey as a vital medicine for centuries. Scientists of today also accept honey as a very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases. Today’s science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, chappati, or other bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack.

Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heartbeat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as age the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalizes the arteries and veins.

INSECT BITES: Take one part honey to two parts of lukewarm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder, make a paste and massage it on the itching part of the body slowly. It is noticed that the pain recedes within a minute or two.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week out of the 200 people so treated practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

HAIR LOSS: Those suffering from hair loss or baldness, may apply a paste of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder before bath and keep it for approx. 15 min. and then wash the hair. It was found to be effective even if kept on for 5 minutes.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE: Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder
mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to
reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any Chronic cholesterol is cured. As per information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

INFERTILITY: Yunani and Ayurvedic Medicine have been using honey for thousands of years to strengthen the semen of men. If impotent men regularly take two tablespoon of honey before going to sleep, their problem will be solved.

In China, Japan and Far-East countries, women, who do not conceive and need to strengthen the uterus, have been taking cinnamon powder for centuries. Women who
cannot conceive may take a pinch of cinnamon powder in half teaspoon of honey
and apply it on the gums frequently throughout the day, so that it slowly mixes with the saliva and enters the body.

A couple in Maryland, USA, had no children for 14 years and had lost hope of having a child of their own. When told about this process, husband and wife started taking honey and cinnamon as stated above; the wife conceived after a few months and had twins at full term.

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomachache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food, relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ingredient, which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly arrests the ravages of old age. Take 4 spoons of honey, 1 spoon of cinnamon powder and 3 cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, 3 to 4 times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age.

Life spans also increases and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of Honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS: Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month 3 times a day.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon power in equal parts, are more alert and flexible.

Dr. Milton who has done research says that a half tablespoon honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3.00 p.m. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH: People of South America, first thing in the morning gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water. So their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder taken in equal parts restore hearing.

*NOTE:The honey used needs to be REAL RAW UNPASTEURIZED HONEY. If it says PURE honey it is most likely pasteurized. It is best to only buy honey that says RAW or UNPASTEURIZED on the label. The difference is that the enzymes are all heated out of the pasteurized honey.

PS: Honey is also useful in dealing with ALLERGIES! If you regularly eat honey made from the plants you are sensitive to, it will desensitize your system and curb your allergic response. Pretty cool.

Happy Feet Are Healthy Feet

Happy Feet

Are your feet happy? I wrote an earlier article on Barefoot Running in which I touched on the downside of wearing shoes and of the running and walking style inherent in a shoe-wearing culture.happyfeet1

When your feet are constrained as in shoes, your feet cannot move and your muscles, ligaments and tendons atrophy. This leads to a host of problems in your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back.

The feet in this photo are barefoot healthy feet – happy feet! Compare to your own feet; mine look like Flintstone feet in comparison.

I recommend a transition to barefoot or minimalist footwear and going total barefoot around the house and wherever you can manage it. If you have to wear shoes at times, be sure to also wear a quality orthoticto support and maintain proper structural relationships. You can find a decent orthotic at Costco for about $30, I can supply a custom fit orthotic for $60 or a custom made one for $250.

If you choose to go minimalist/barefoot, it’s very important to train yourself into the barefoot style. I used the Merrell Barefoot Challenge, but if you Google “barefoot training”, you’ll get lot’s of resources. Most important is the foot strike, which should be mid to fore foot, not the heel. It takes practice and time – go slowly.

Tribulation Diet

I’ve been called to a 40 day Daniel fast.

“Daniel fast” refers to the first chapter in the book of Daniel where he requested of those that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given charge over him and his three friends that they be given pulse and water instead of the king’s food and wine. Now all the new age bibles have changed “pulse” to “vegetables.” Only the KJV and ASV retain the word “pulse.” So I looked up pulse and found:
PULSE, n. [L. pulsus, beaten out, as seeds; Heb. a bean, to separate.] Leguminous plants or their seeds; the plants whose pericarp is a legume or pod, as beans, peas, &c. Also:
[OE. puls, L. puls, pultis, a thick pap or pottage made of meal, pulse, etc. See Poultice, and cf. Pousse.] Leguminous plants, or their seeds, as beans, peas, etc.

So, meal, pulse, etc. – hey, rice and beans! The Tribulation Diet.

I began this time of prayer and fasting June 21; this is day 6. The first couple of days were rough because of coffee withdrawal, but now things are great. I’ve had some amazing time with God and a few very cool revelations. I have this heightened sense of God’s hand on me and His orchestration of my life – very sweet. I’m very excited about where this is going. I know it will be extraordinary beyond what I can imagine.

Whatever happened to prayer and fasting? It seems to have been dropped out of the practices of today’s churches. It’s been taken out of the new age bibles to a great degree. In the old testament fasts were called all the time: Nineveh was delivered from destruction with a 3 day fast, battles were won with 1 day fasts, etc.; in the new testament Jesus said “When you fast don’t do as the hypocrites…” “This kind of spirit only comes out with prayer and fasting.” The devil has stolen a very powerful weapon from the people of God.

I’m excited to see what God has in store for me. I expect to get closer to Him than ever before, to see strongholds destroyed, to be purified, refined, strengthened, built up, encouraged, and to gain wisdom, knowledge and discernment. We’ll see.

I also expect to see some profound changes in my health. This type of discipline allows your body to purge all sorts of toxic junk from cells, tissues and organs. So I get a bonus: physical cleansing as well as spiritual cleansing.

We Have A Treasure Under Our Noses

For years, I have been amazed at and blessed by these beautiful yellow flowers that cover the hillsides this time of year in the woods where I run most days. Although I see these plants elsewhere, never in such abundance as in the woods adjacent to Upriver Dr. near the dam.Image

I wanted to know about these plants, so I did a little research and got more than I bargained for.

Balsamorhiza sagittata, Arrowleaf Balsamroot:
It is a part of the Aster Family, Asteraceae, a species of the Balsamroot genus, and is a perennial forb (herbaceous plant). It is native to Montana and the Mountain West. A search for ethnobotanical applications turned up 109 uses (

This should not be surprising, as plant names often reveal the plant’s characteristics, in this case, the root as supplying balsam: “Balsam is a term used for various pleasantly scented plant products. These are oily or gummy oleoresins, usually containing benzoic acid or cinnamic acid, obtained from the exudates of various trees and shrubs and used as a base for some botanical medicines.” ( to its uses.. holey moley! It’s pretty much a panacea!

This is a summary of uses from the University of Michigan ethnobotany database; its properties classify it as an analgesic, disinfectant, antirheumatic (internal), dermatological aid, venereal aid, gynecological aid, urinary aid, diaphoretic, eye medicine, antidiarrheal, oral/throat aid, burn dressing, cathartic, pulmonary aid, hemostat, tuberculosis remedy, dietary aid, cold remedy, febrifuge (lowers fevers), gastrointestinal aid, panacea, sedative, beverage, candy, food, incense/fragrance, tool/containers, and gathered for trade…
