Don’t Just Sit There…

Move It!

Too much sitting is not just bad for your back

It’s well known that excessive sitting aggravates low back conditions and destabilizes your lumbar spine making you prone to back injury, but recent research links it to life threatening health issues.

Is prolonged sitting really dangerous? Sorry PC folks. The answer is – Yes, it does, according to the Australian Diabetes, Obesity, and Lifestyle Study. In this national survey, researchers followed 8,800 adults, ages 25 and older, for six and a half years and found that each hour subjects spent lolling about watching television was associated with an 18 percent increase in death from heart disease – and an 11 percent increase in overall mortality. Those who watched TV for four or more hours daily were 80 percent more likely to die of heart disease and 46 percent more likely to die overall than those who watched two hours or less.

Researchers say it’s not just the overweight that are in trouble. Even at a healthy weight, sitting for hours can make it harder for the body to process blood sugar and blood fats – an endeavor that requires the chemicals we produce when our muscles contract, as they do when we stand or move. Study authors encourage us to exercise regularly and break up our sitting with movement. Take a walk at lunch, or go talk to your coworker rather than sending an e-mail.

Heaven & Earth

Heaven and Earth

For quite some time I’d been wondering about certain passages of Scripture which didn’t seem to make sense. And the Lord revealed an understanding that led to a bible study I call The Earth Dwellers.heaven&earth

Hos 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

This is from the account of the two witnesses:

Rev 11:8-10
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

So, my question arose, are “they that dwell upon the earth” everybody? That doesn’t make sense. Here is a key to the riddle:

Rev 12:11-12
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Christ Jesus spoke about the realm His followers walk in:

John 8:23
23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
(this is not to His followers)

Brain Health

The Health Benefits of Coconut Oil :

The most recent breakthrough on understanding the health benefits comes from Dr. Mary Newport’s work on Alzheimer’s in her husband.  She identified organic coconut oil as an excellent source of fuel which can increase brain functions.  Her findings have implications for memory improvement as well as for neurological degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Lou Gehrig’s (ALS), diabetes, etc.

Brain cells (specifically neurons) are limited in what kinds of fuel they can use to stay alive.  Glucose is the main fuel used by these cells but in Alzheimer’s patients certain neurons of the brain are unable to use glucose and consequently, slowly die off.  This death of these brain cells may begin as much as a decade before symptoms actually become apparent.

However, neurons that are unable to use glucose can instead use an alternative fuel known as ketone bodies.  Ketone bodies are readily made by the liver from medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oils (found in large amounts in coconut oil- over 60% MCT’s).  Having access to these needed ketone bodies may be crucial in keeping these brain cells alive and in helping them to continue to function as normal.

Dr. Newport’s husband, quickly deteriorating with Alzheimer’s, found a miraculous and an immediate increase in brain function in just 24 hours after taking two tablespoons of virgin coconut oil.  In 2008, for a medical screening he was asked to draw a simple clock (see picture #1 below) which noticeably showed an adult with decreased brain function. To date, her husband continues to take coconut oil and has noticed an improved quality of life.  He is alert, happy, talkative, cracking jokes, able to concentrate better, more social and has a decrease in tremors.

We have puppies!

Keyla and her pups.

Our Chi-Weenie, Keyla, recently gave birth to 5 adorable puppies. All went well, and Keyla is a great mommie. We bred her with a very cute Jack-Yorkie named Wilson. They should be very cool looking little dogs. I have no idea where the coloring came from – I was expecting brownish. Oh well.

It’s just amazing to watch the process from conception to birth. God has really put it together. It all happened seamlessly without gynecologist, obstetrician, pediatrician, and with no prenatal visits, hospital stay, drugs, pelvic exams, fetal monitoring, induction, postnatal evaluation, well baby visits, etc., etc. How do they do it? You mean that procreation can happen with no human intervention???

Hmm. Well, how about that!

We can learn a lot from just watching God’s creation proceed. We can learn to trust in Him and the wisdom He gives us, above all else.
